The Cincinnati Reds got a stellar performance from pitcher Gabrio Lomeli, who handcuffed the Chicago offense en route to a win, 2-0, at Wrigley Field. Lomeli, the winner, moves to 9-5. He threw 5.1 innings of 3-hit ball, while fanning 3 and giving up 2 walks. Mike Popp got credit for the save for Cincinnati. It was his 38th of the year.

In the top of the first, Jose Sanchez pounced on a splitter from Mike Steiner and hit a 2-run double. It gave Cincinnati a quick 2-0 lead.

"This kind of win will certainly make our fans happy," Sanchez told the Cincinnati Daily News.

Cincinnati is now 69-72.
