Mets Sting Rockies, 8-5
|
The New York Mets stopped the Colorado Rockies, 8-5, behind an impressive performance from D.J. Winger. The four-time All-Star made life miserable for Colorado pitching. He went 3 for 4 with a home run and a double. He scored 3 times. Andrew Dalquist earned the win for New York. He lasted 5 innings, allowing 5 runs on 8 hits, while striking out 2. With the win, he raised his record to 11-7. Bob Cooper nailed down his 20th save.
Danny Alfaro delivered a big hit for the Mets. The veteran catcher belted a 2-run home run in the bottom of the fourth. The longball put New York on top, 6-2. Overall, Alfaro was 1-4 with a home run. He drove in 3 runs and scored once.
"If we play like this, we can win a lot of games," Winger told the New York Times.
New York goes to 92-48. The win puts them 22½ games up in their division.
