Cubs Roll Giants, 4-3
|
The Chicago Cubs took San Francisco pitcher Ricky Reyez's best shot and still were able to claim a win at Wrigley Field. The final score had Chicago getting past the Giants, 4-3. Reyez went 5.2 innings and allowed no runs, striking out 4. Reliever Juan Herrera picked up the win. His record improves to 1-2. Greg Van Acker took the loss. Juan Exposito earned the save for Chicago, his 31st of the year.
Bob Willin had a clutch hit in the bottom of the seventh inning. With two men out and runners on 1st and 2nd, the Chicago first baseman hit a run-scoring single. That put the Cubs in the lead, 4-3.
"We'll put that win in the can," said Willin, "and go after the next one."
The win puts the Cubs at 71-68, while the Giants drop to 49-89.
