The New York Mets beat the Washington Nationals, 6-3, at Nationals Park. New York right fielder Ben Long had an outstanding performance. He slugged 2 home runs. The save went to Bob Cooper, his 19th this season. The Nationals, now 54-81, have lost 4 in a row.

New York used the clutch hitting of Dave Knight to capture the win. The designated hitter drilled a 3-run home run in the top of the tenth inning to put the Mets ahead, 6-3. It was his only hit in 6 at-bats, but it was a big one.
