Mariners Suffer 3-1 Setback
|
Butch Allen never let the Mariners get in a groove. The left-hander used his bread and butter, his fastball, to pitch the Yankees to a win, 3-1. New York reliever Tyler Gough picked up the win, raising his record to 9-6. Mario Bermudez was tagged with the loss. Chris Escobar recorded the save for New York, his 1st of the season.
Alex Sandoval produced at a critical juncture for New York. It happened in the top of the eighth with Mario Bermudez on the mound and New York leading 2-1. That's when the slick-fielding third baseman Sandoval hit a sacrifice fly.
Sandoval attributed the win to "energy and focus on the part of everyone."
The Yankees lead the American League East Division by 4 games.
