Palmer Performance to No Avail in 5-4 Guardians Loss
|
Chicago and Cleveland duked it out and the Cubs came out victorious.
The Chicago Cubs overcame a fine performance by Cleveland left fielder Doug Palmer to defeat the Guardians, 5-4, at Wrigley Field. Palmer was 4-4 with a home run, a double, 2 singles, and a walk. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. Jeremy Hamada, who went 5.2 innings, was the winning pitcher. He was charged with 3 runs on 8 hits, while walking 1 and striking out 7. His record now stands at 14-7. Sean Dohm collected save number 25.
In the bottom of the fourth, with Chicago leading 4-1, right fielder Chris Sorenson hit a run-scoring single. The hit came off Joaquin Becerra and put the Cubs ahead, 5-1.
Sorenson said afterward that he was glad to help his team win.
The Cubs now have a mark of 67-65.
