Cubs Pick Up 7-6 Win
|
The Toronto Blue Jays got a sterling performance from left fielder Danny Alvarez, but the Chicago Cubs still prevailed, 7-6. Alvarez was 2-3 with 2 singles and 2 walks. The winner in relief was Garret Rust. The right-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 1.1 innings. He now owns a record of 7-1. Juan Exposito earned the save, his 27th.
The Cubs beat the Blue Jays in part due to timely hitting. Case in point: the two-out single Jorge Lomeli produced in the top of the seventh. Batting against Grubbs, Lomeli gave his team a 7-6 lead when he hit a 2-run single.
Lomeli told a Chicago Daily reporter that he was "very satisfied" with the win.
With the victory, the Cubs upped their record to 62-61.
