Tamayo Raps Honolulu for 5 Hits
|
Puerto Rico center fielder Tony Tamayo went down swinging at Estadio Guillermo Hernandez today, knocking out 5 hits even as his Islanders fell, 5-1.
"It was like I was hitting Little League pitching," Tamayo said after his 5-for-5 performance against the Honolulu Salukis. "No offense meant to Honolulu, but it was like I was back in little league again -- I could see the ball that well."
After the game, his manager elaborated on the center fielder's improvements, saying Tamayo spent the offseason trying to shorten his swing and stay inside the ball.
"That's what I'm trying to do," Tamayo agreed. "Be quick to the ball and let it travel a little farther so I get a better look at it."
Tony Tamayo singled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, singled in the 7th and doubled in the 9th.
So far this season Tamayo is hitting .291 with 3 home runs.
