The Cincinnati Reds overcame a fine performance by New York catcher David Herrera to defeat the Yankees, 4-3, at Great American Ball Park. Herrera went 3-4 with a home run and a double, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. The winning pitcher was Joe Morris. His record is now 8-5. The right-hander went 5.2 innings, allowing 2 runs on 5 hits for the Reds. The Reds saw their win-loss record go to 58-52. At the same time, the Yankees fell to 66-43.

Luís Chaumond delivered a big hit for the Reds. The veteran first baseman belted a solo home run in the bottom of the eighth. The longball put Cincinnati on top, 4-2. Overall, Chaumond was 1 for 3 with a home run and a walk.

"It was a solid team effort," said Chaumond after the game.
