Colorado Rockies starter Choji Taira was in fine form against the Cincinnati Reds at Great American Ball Park, leading his team to a win, 3-1. Taira went 7.2 innings to notch the win. He scattered 7 hits, walked 1, and struck out 5. His record improves to 5-5. Mike Catlin earned the save for Colorado, his 35th of the year.
With Colorado leading 2-1 in the top of the fifth, Victor Nieves hit a run-scoring single off Cincinnati pitcher Joe Morris. It put the Rockies ahead 3-1.
"We'll put that win in the can," said Nieves, "and go after the next one."
The Rockies, at 60-46, sit in first place in the National League West Division.
