Velasquez Plays Big Role in St. Louis Win
Ernesto Velasquez never let Chicago get something going. The St. Louis right-hander commanded his cutter in pitching the Cardinals to a 3-0 win. The victory gives St. Louis a record of 60-45.

Velasquez's performance can only be described as masterful. He notched 13 strikeouts in 6.2 innings while allowing 4 hits. Velasquez, who is tied for 8th in the NL with a 2.59 ERA, goes to 10-3 on the year with 172 strikeouts.

"It was a solid team effort," Velasquez said. "That's usually what it takes to win."
