Springfield Wins at Home to Take 2-1 Lead in R1
|
The Springfield Cardinals silenced the Arkansas Travelers to move within one game of the Round 2. The Cardinals shut out the Travelers by a final score of 3-0 at Hammons Field. Springfield right-hander Esteban Leyva had a strong outing. He threw 7.0 innings of shutout ball. The win gives the Cardinals a 2-1 advantage in the best-of-5 Round 1.
Leyva, a native of Avondale, Arizona, was dealing all game. He kept Arkansas hitters off-balance, while giving the Cardinals 7 quality innings. Leyva threw 84 pitches, allowing 4 hits and striking out 5.
"I just tried to focus on getting that first guy out every inning," said Leyva.
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Hammons Field in Springfield.
