When he got to Inland Empire, Tony Rivera was just worrying about staying on the roster. Today, he was starring in the Round 1.

The 21-year-old rookie left-hander shut out the host Lake Elsinore Storm, 1-0, in a remarkable performance at Lake Elsinore Diamond. With the win, the 66ers took a 2-1 lead in the best-of-7 Round 1.

Rivera was in the zone, shutting down Lake Elsinore hitters over 7 innings. Rivera, who threw 85 pitches, allowed no runs on 4 hits. He also tallied 8 punchouts.

"I felt good. I felt like I was locating the ball well and I was able to keep them off-balance," said Rivera.

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Lake Elsinore Diamond in Lake Elsinore.
