Phillies Suffer 4-3 Setback
|
In a tight contest at Nationals Park, the Washington Nationals edged the Philadelphia Phillies by the score of 4-3. Washington left fielder Erick Pena, who blasted 1 home run, was a key contributor. Reliever Bobby Pudney picked up the win. His record improves to 8-3. Willie Soto took the loss. The Nationals improve their record to 38-58 with the win over Philadelphia.
The game was decided with one out in the bottom of the ninth. With Washington trailing 3-2, Ralph Plante hit a sinker from Willie Soto to right for a 2-run single. Just like that, the Nationals had a walk-off win.
"We came out on the wrong end of this one," said Philadelphia skipper Tyler L. Johnson.
