Reds Drop Guardians, 5-2
|
Cincinnati Reds starter Gus Martell turned in a top-notch performance against the Cleveland Guardians at Great American Ball Park. The result was a win for the Reds, 5-2. Mike Popp closed the door for Cincinnati, picking up his 30th save of the year. The Reds now own a record of 50-43.
Jose Sanchez took Josh Schmitz deep with one out in the bottom of the fourth. On a 1-0 sinker, Sanchez drilled a 3-run home run to left. It was his 17th home run of the season and put Cincinnati on top, 3-0.
"Good win for us," said Martell. "Now we'll focus on the next one."
