Expos Dump Mets, 6-2
|
Olympic Stadium was the site for American League action featuring the New York Mets and Montreal Expos.
Montreal center fielder Steve Dowdle played a vital role in his team's 6-2 triumph over New York. He was 2-5 with a home run, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once for Montreal. Erik Dickman got the win, improving to 9-2. He pitched 5 innings, giving up 6 hits and 2 runs, while striking out 4 and walking 3. Dave Blackstone recorded the save for Montreal, his 13th of the season.
With the game tied, 2-2, in the bottom of the fifth, Dowdle had a key at-bat for Montreal. With a runner on 2nd, Dowdle, the 5th overall pick in the 2032 draft, hit a run-scoring single off Anthony Susac, making the score 3-2, Expos.
"The team always comes first, so pulling out the win on a day like today is the most important thing," Dowdle told a reporter while responding to autograph requests. "Our fans like to come out to see a win, so I'm happy to do what I can to give them that."
The Expos, at 53-38, sit in first place in the American League East Division.
