The St. Louis Cardinals picked up a win at Busch Stadium, knocking off the Milwaukee Brewers, 4-3. Starting pitcher Dave Ortiz was a big reason why. St. Louis reliever Bob Lombardi got the win, raising his record to 2-1. Steve Arnell was tagged with the loss. Alex Velasquez closed the door for St. Louis, picking up his 24th save of the year.

Steve Szumski had a critical at-bat with two out in the bottom of the eighth. The St. Louis shortstop came through with a run-scoring triple to put St. Louis in front, 4-3.

"We'll savor this win," Szumski told the St. Louis Chronicle, "then get ready for the next game."

The Cardinals improve their record to 49-41 with the win over Milwaukee.
