Braves Take 2-1 Lead with 2-1 Win
|
The Mississippi Braves got a strong performance from pitcher Juan Tristan, who stymied the Birmingham offense en route to a 2-1 win in Game 3 of the Round 2. The Barons could never get a bead on the left-handed Tristan, who threw 6.0 innings allowing 1 run. The Braves now hold a 2-1 advantage in the best-of-5 series.
Had Eric Bowerman not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Bowerman hit a run-scoring double. That made the score 2-1, in favor of the Braves.
"There are no moral victories," said losing manager Alex A. Fernandez.
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Trustmark Park in Pearl.
