Yankees Take Down Angels, 1-0
|
People outside the ballpark no doubt heard the roar of the crowd as the winning run crossed the plate.
Los Angeles wasted a solid 10-inning effort from starting pitcher Jimmy Holmquist, losing to New York, 1-0, at Yankee Stadium. New York reliever Ben Maurice picked up the win, raising his record to 5-5. Jimmy Holmquist was tagged with the loss.
The Yankees procured the win, in large part because of left fielder Chris Eley. In the bottom of the 11th, he produced the game-winning run-scoring double.
"It's a satisfying feeling, to win like we did," said Eley.
The Yankees, at 51-36, sit in first place in the American League East Division.
