Braves Zap Nationals, 5-1
|
The Atlanta Braves racked up a win at Truist Park, bumping off the Washington Nationals, 5-1. Jalen Peart, who started for Atlanta, pitched effectively for his team. The Braves improve their record to 38-30 with the win over Washington.
Atlanta first baseman Mike Hammond said he was just trying to make contact when he came to bat with a runner on 2nd in the bottom of the sixth. He did more than that -- Hammond hit a 2-run home run to stake Atlanta to a 2-0 lead. His 7th home run of the season came off Washington pitcher Philip Abner.
"Win or lose, we pick each other up in this clubhouse," Hammond told the Atlanta Gazette.
