Cardinals Drop Mets, 3-2
|
St. Louis Cardinals starter Bobby Belmonte pitched effectively against the New York Mets at Citi Field. The left-hander spearheaded his team's 3-2 win. Belmonte picked up the win for St. Louis, going 6.1 innings. He gave up 2 runs on 4 hits. He now sports a record of 11-2. Their 38-29 record puts the Cardinals second in the National League Central Division.
It could have been a different outcome for St. Louis, had it not been for Mike Mayne, the 27-year old center fielder . Mayne contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the sixth inning to put St. Louis up, 3-0.
After the game, St. Louis manager Garrett Parcell applauded the team's effort. "They busted their humps out there," he said.
