Giants Beat Athletics, 3-1
|
San Francisco picked up a win at Oakland Coliseum, bumping off the Oakland Athletics, 3-1. Pitcher Jim Shane was a major reason the Giants emerged victorious. Shane got the win, improving to 1-2. He allowed 6 hits and walked 1 over 6 innings. Shane allowed 1 run. Bob Cooper, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 11th save.
Chris Ledbetter, the 29-year old left fielder , had a direct impact on the outcome. Ledbetter contributed a run-scoring double in the top of the fifth inning to put San Francisco up, 2-0.
"We put a lot of pressure on ourselves," Shane told a San Francisco Today reporter. "Sometimes we just need to relax."
The Giants are now 19-46, while the Athletics fall to 27-39.
