Expos Lose Late, 3-2
|
Both teams had their opportunities, but in the end, the Los Angeles Angels got the win.
The Los Angeles Angels picked up a win at Angel Stadium of Anaheim, knocking off the Montreal Expos, 3-2. Starting pitcher Johnny Ramirez was a big reason why. The winner was Los Angeles reliever Alan Jones, now 1-0. The loser was Mike Fenchel.
Rod Nelms drew 1 walk in 4 plate appearances. He drove in 2 runs for Los Angeles. With two out and the game tied in the bottom of the eighth inning, Nelms, who is tied for 10th in the AL in extra base hits with 26, had a clutch at-bat. Facing Montreal hurler Mike Johnson, he drew a walk, driving in 1 run to give the Angels a 3-2 lead.
"It takes a lot of things to win a ballgame," said Los Angeles manager Mark Weist. "It's usually not just one thing."
Today's win puts Los Angeles at 27-30, while Montreal falls to 35-24.
