Lafnear Lifts Red Sox to 8-4 Triumph
|
The Boston Red Sox beat the Houston Astros by a score of 8-4. Boston right fielder Phil Lafnear deserved the lion's share of the credit. Lafnear went 2 for 4 with 2 home runs and a walk, while adding 5 RBI and scoring twice for the Red Sox. Joe Rudge picked up the win with 6 innings of work. He allowed 4 runs on 11 hits, while walking 1 and striking out 5. On the season, he is now 7-2. The Red Sox go to 24-36, putting them 4th in the American League East Division.
Lafnear had a game-changing home run in the top of the seventh. On a 2-2 sinker from Jamie Wasserman, he banged a grand slam home run to left, giving the Red Sox a 8-4 lead. It was the 9th home run of the year for Lafnear.
"In baseball, you have your ups and downs," said Houston manager Ryan Howard. "You just try to stay level-headed the whole time."
