Braves Take Down Cardinals, 5-3
|
The Braves grabbed a win, 5-3, at Busch Stadium, overcoming a fine effort from St. Louis pitcher Caleb Hellmann. Hellmann went 5 innings and allowed no runs. Getting the save was Steve Epperson, his 15th. Atlanta's record now stands at 27-23, placing them second in the National League East Division.
Dave Tewes's at-bat in the top of the sixth inning was a big one for Atlanta. Coming to bat with two out, runners on 2nd and 3rd and Atlanta trailing 3-1, the designated hitter hit a 2-run single.
Tewes told a Atlanta Gazette reporter that he was "very satisfied" with the win.
