Cardinals Snatch Late Win
|
In a low-scoring game between St. Louis and New York, pitcher Ernesto Velasquez was excellent. The St. Louis right-hander helped his team knock off the Mets, 2-1. Dan Carpenter came out of the bullpen to earn the win. The right-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 2 innings. His record now stands at 2-0. The win puts St. Louis at 24-15 this season.
The Cardinals procured the win, in large part because of designated hitter Tony Calvo. In the bottom of the 12th, he produced the game-winning run-scoring single.
"I was the aggressor," said Velasquez. "No doubt about it."
