The New York Yankees stopped the Oakland Athletics, 5-4, at Oakland Coliseum. The Yankees got a big game from Danny Padilla, who was 2 for 4 with a home run and a double. He scored 2 runs. Tyler Gough came out of the bullpen to earn the win. The right-hander allowed no runs on 2 hits in 3 innings. His record now stands at 5-1. The second-place Yankees improved to 24-12.
The game hung in the balance in the top of the tenth inning. With two out and runners on 1st and 2nd, the batter, Israel Armendariz, hit a run-scoring single. New York went on to win.
"There's no quit in this team," said Yankees manager Kida De La Cruz.
