Braves Eke Out 2-1 Win Versus West Virginia
|
Appalachian Power Park featured a tense pitchers' duel.
The Rome Braves beat the West Virginia Power, 2-1, at Appalachian Power Park. Starting pitcher Elias Noriega was a big reason why. He held his opponent in check all game. Noriega, now 6-2, was the winner. In 6.1 innings, he gave up 7 hits, while striking out 5, walking 1, and allowing 1 run. Eric Van Wye notched his 2nd save in 2 chances.
Rome used a well-timed hit by Angelo (A.J.) Hoisington to capture the win. The center fielder socked a 2-run double in the top of the first inning to put the Braves ahead, 2-0. Though it was his only hit in 4 at-bats, it was important.
"The old adage is true," said Hoisington. "Good pitching stops good hitting."
The Braves, at 56-41, sit in third place in the Southern Division.
