Red Sox Sneak By Rangers, 11-10
|
The Texas Rangers got a superb performance from third baseman Rodrigo Maradiaga. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Boston. The Red Sox won the game, 11-10. Maradiaga was 3-4 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk. He scored 3 runs and drove in 2. The winner was Marc Triplett in relief. His record improves to 1-2. Robby Jaeger took the loss. Charlie Bartholomew closed the door for Boston, picking up his 3rd save of the year.
Juan Burruel was 2-4 with 2 singles, while scoring 2 times for Boston. With one out and the game tied in the bottom of the eighth inning, Burruel, who is tied for 4th in the AL in hits with 40, had a clutch at-bat. Facing Texas hurler Eric Nunez, he hit a sacrifice fly to give the Red Sox a 11-10 lead.
Red Sox manager Junior Zamora wasn't all too pleased, despite the win, telling reporters that the performance highlighted some clear areas for improvement moving forward. He refused to be more specific, however. "I'm not gonna publicize our weaknesses," he said. "That stuff stays in the clubhouse."
The triumph makes Boston 9-25.
