The West Virginia Power picked up a win at State Mutual Stadium, knocking off the Rome Braves, 2-1. On the mound for West Virginia was right-hander Jim Oakley, who played a pivotal role in the win. Bob Laitinen got the save, the 3rd for him this season. With the win, West Virginia is 6-2.

West Virginia relied on the hitting of Frank Baez to pick up the win. The designated hitter clubbed a 2-run home run in the top of the first inning to put the Power on top, 2-0. For the game, Baez had 1 home run and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
