The 5-2 Kane County win over Great Lakes was due largely to Sam Cioffi. The Cougars shortstop was 2 for 3 with a home run, while scoring 2 and driving in 3. The winner in relief was Jonathan Saldana. He is now 2-2. The right-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 3 innings. Kane County, at 83-51, occupies second place in the Western Division.

The Loons had been locked in a 2-2 tie with the Cougars going into the bottom of the fourth inning. That changed quickly when the 22-year old catcher Dave Baker came to the plate. Baker hit a run-scoring double on a first pitch curveball from Great Lakes hurler Jimmy Hirschman. It was Baker's 17th double of the year.

Baker attributed the win to "a well-rounded effort by the whole team."
