Mets Lose at Home, 7-3, to Washington
|
Eager fans turned out for a matchup between the Washington Nationals and New York Mets.
The Washington Nationals picked up a win at Citi Field, topping the New York Mets, 7-3. On the mound for Washington was right-hander Eric Roach. He played a principal role in the triumph. The winning pitcher was Roach, now 3-1. He tossed 6.1 innings of 5-hit ball, while walking 1 and fanning 5.
Tied up with the Mets in the top of the fifth inning, the Nationals got a boost from designated hitter Nate Thompson. With runners on 1st and 2nd, Thompson saw a 1-1 sinker from Willis Nava and hit a run-scoring single to break the stalemate and put Washington on top, 3-2.
Thompson attributed the win to his team's "focus and intensity."
The win puts Washington at 8-8.
