3 Bombs for Kliubert Avila Tuesday, May 19th , 2026 Wilmington Blue Rocks catcher Kliubert Avila almost did it all. He sent three shots out of the ballpark, scored 3 times and drove in 3 runs and had 3 hits in 4 at-bats. The one thing he could not do, however, was lead the Blue Rocks to victory. The Hickory Crawdads escaped with the win, 6-5, despite being on the receiving end of the barrage from Avila. "I'd be lying if I said I didn't like hitting three homers, but losing takes a little glitter off the game," he admitted to BNN writers after the game. Kliubert Avila hit a solo-shot off Dylan MacLean in the 1st, flied out in the 4th, hit a solo-shot off Norogumi Arai in the 6th and hit a solo-shot off Matt Ager in the 8th. "When someone hits three home runs, you put yourself in a tough position to win," said Wilmington manager Mario Lisson. "We were lucky to win this one. I don't think it matters how hard you throw, especially in the South Atlantic League. If you leave a ball out over the plate to good South Atlantic League hitters, if they get a bead on you and you leave it over the middle, they're probably going to take a good hack at it." This year, Avila is hitting .238 with 10 hits, 5 home runs, 8 RBIs and has scored 7 runs. |
