Phillies Lose By a Run at Washington
|
Thanks in large part to designated hitter Juan Soto, the Washington Nationals beat the Philadelphia Phillies, 4-3. Soto was 1 for 3 with a home run and a walk. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2. Washington reliever Joan Adon picked up the win to move to 4-0. Aaron Nola suffered the loss. Ryan Fernandez closed out the game, earning his 6th save.
With Washington leading 2-1 in the bottom of the third, Soto came up to bat against Philadelphia pitcher Aaron Nola. Soto hit a cutter to left-center for a 2-run home run. His 33rd home run of the season put the Nationals on top, 4-1.
Washington manager A.J. Hinch commended his team for delivering "maximum effort."
Washington now sits at 81-80, while Philadelphia falls to 62-99.
