Red Sox Use Late-Game Magic to Beat Twins, 5-3
|
The Boston Red Sox defeated the Minnesota Twins by the score of 5-3. Jimmy Bordwine starred for Boston, going 2-for-4 with 1 home run. The winner in relief was Dylon Merten. The right-hander allowed no runs on 5 hits in 4.1 innings. He now owns a record of 5-2. The Twins, at 70-90, have lost 5 straight games.
Marcelo Mayer delivered a big hit for Boston. The shortstop drilled a 2-run home run in the top of the ninth inning to put the Red Sox ahead, 5-3. It was his only hit, but it was a beauty.
Bordwine called the win "a collective effort."
