Lake County Takes Round 1 in Deciding Game
The thrill of victory and the agony of defeat were on full display tonight at Classic Park as the Round 1 stretched to the final game.

It was the Lake County Captains feeling the thrill of victory, with a 7-3 win over the Fort Wayne TinCaps, who were feeling the devastation of coming up short in their quest to make the Round 2.

"There's no way around it -- this sucks," said Fort Wayne manager Mike Daly. "Congratulations to Lake County, but I won't sugarcoat it, no one is happy about anything that transpired here tonight."

Instrumental in the 4-3 series win was second baseman Angel Genao, who was named MVP. He hit .321 with a .441 on-base percentage. He had 3 home runs, drove in 7 RBI and scored 7 runs.

"We've got the most important stat of all and that's this final win -- that's the one that matters," he said.

The Lake County Captains will play against the Peoria Chiefs in the next round. Peoria won their series against the Cedar Rapids Kernels 4 games to 2. The Round 2 schedule will be announced after the Round 1 finishes.
