Nationals Sneak By Brewers, 7-6
|
The Washington Nationals trumped the Milwaukee Brewers, 7-6, at Nationals Park. Washington designated hitter Jose Espinoza was terrific. He went 1-4 with a home run and a walk, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once. Washington reliever T.J. Bonds got the win, raising his record to 1-0. Riordan Oropeza was tagged with the loss. The win lifts Washington to a record of 2-4.
The game was decided with no one out in the bottom of the ninth. With Washington trailing 6-3, Espinoza jumped on a fastball from 35-year old right-handed pitcher Riordan Oropeza and hit a grand slam home run to right. With one swing, the Nationals had a walk-off win.
"Sometimes you get the ball in the right spot and it goes," said Espinoza.
