Royals Win at Atlanta, 6-2
|
Riding the 2-hit performance of the two-time Most Valuable Player Award winner Mike Johnson, the Kansas City Royals stopped the Atlanta Braves, 6-2. The winning pitcher was Brad King. He's now 11-8. He went 6 innings, allowing 2 runs on 6 hits for the Royals. The Royals, at 85-69, have a comfortable 15½-game lead in their division.
Kansas City used the stroke of Joe Workman to get the win. The right fielder hammered a 3-run home run in the top of the first inning to put the Royals ahead, 4-0. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it did its damage.
Johnson attributed the win to his team's "determination."
