Yankees Lose, 5-4, in 13
|
The Washington Nationals beat the New York Yankees, 5-4. Washington pitcher and Cidra, Puerto Rico, native Danny Fernandez led the way. Jeremy Pickett snagged the win in relief. The left-hander allowed no runs on no hits over 2 innings. He's now 2-0 on the season. Steve Lugo, credited with the save, is now 1 for 1 in save opportunities.
Washington used a timely hit from Marcelo Mayer to get the win. The shortstop stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the 13th inning to put the Nationals ahead, 5-4. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it made an impact.
"We battled our tails off to get this win," said Washington manager Alberto Arias.
The loss makes New York 78-54.
