4-3 Loss Deepens Cleveland Funk
|
The Kansas City Royals did just enough to sneak past the Cleveland Guardians, 4-3, at Kauffman Stadium. Kansas City pitcher Mike Wallace, in particular, had a standout performance. Wallace yielded 2 runs over 7 innings to notch the win. He scattered 6 hits, walked 1, and struck out 9. His record improves to 7-2. Kansas City has won 3 straight, while Cleveland has lost 8 in a row.
Mike Johnson had a big solo home run for the Royals in the bottom of the sixth inning. With Kansas City leading 3-2 and the bases empty, he got a changeup from 25-year old right-handed pitcher Ben Herbst and swatted a home run to right. It was his 20th home run of the season, and more importantly, it put the Royals ahead, 4-2.
"Come up with some new questions," snapped losing manager Nate Lowe to reporters, "and I'll come up with some new answers."
