Dukes Triumph in 2037 Round 2
|
With a 5-3 win over the York Revolution tonight at Tucson Stadium, the Tucson Dukes wrapped up their 1st title in team history.
Tucson left little doubt who was the better club. "Team" was the word of the day as the Dukes celebrated the culmination of their banner year in the victors clubhouse following the game.
"Hitting, pitching, fielding; those are all things you need to win, but most importantly you need a team, a team that works together toward the same collective goal," said Tucson manager Ali Moton. "Our players felt that way all year and they played that way. When one guy had an off day, 24 others stepped up their game and filled the void."
A jovial mood filled the air as Tucson celebrated into the night. The city's mayor said parade plans were underway and a "huge celebration" in the works.
"We're going to celebrate our team, our championship Tucson Dukes," the mayor said.
The champions completed the regular season with a second-place finish in the Atlantic League North Division and a 76-64 record.
