Orlando Beats New York, 2-0
|
Citi Field was the site of a true pitchers' duel.
Rich Smith, who finished 5th in the AL in wins with 14 last year, was terrific for the Orlando Rays in his team's 2-0 triumph over the New York Mets. His performance earned Smith rave reviews. Juan Solorio nailed down his 10th save.
Orlando used a well-timed hit by Kevin Perl to capture the win. The center fielder socked a 2-run double in the top of the fifth inning to put the Rays ahead, 2-0. Though it was his only hit in 4 at-bats, it was important.
Orlando manager Mike Pelfrey called it "a good, solid win."
The Rays win now puts them at 21-23.
