Today was Samuel Santaella's turn in the rotation for the South Bend Blazers and he made the most of it, shutting out the Elgin Zips on 5 hits.
The 22-year-old left-hander led the Blazers to an easy 11-0 victory, allowing 1 walk and tallying 9 strikeouts.
"I hope we miss him next time," Elgin manager said. "Santaella certainly pitched a strong game against us today. He was in a groove, throwing everything for strikes. Throwing hard. Changing speeds."
To date this season, Santaella sports a 3-4 mark with a 4.97 ERA in 11 starting assignments. He has held the opposition to a .282 batting average and has 50 strikeouts in 63.1 innings.
