Birmingham Hits 2 home runs in Rose Win
|
The Portland Rose defeated the Guadalajara Tequileros, 8-5. First Baseman John Birmingham deserved a large share of the credit. Birmingham was 2 for 3 with 2 home runs and a walk. He drove in 3 runs and scored twice for the Rose. Wander Sánchez, the winner, improved to 1-1. He held Guadalajara to 5 runs on 6 hits over 5.2 innings, while racking up 7 strikeouts. John DiMauro wrapped it up, recording his 1st save.
Ian Morehouse cracked a home run off Simón Castillo in the bottom of the first. His 3-run blast put the Rose on top, 3-0. In all, Morehouse had 1 single in addition to the home run, while going 2 for 5.
"I just tried to see the ball and put a good swing on it," said Birmingham.
Portland now has a record of 3-5.
