Tequileros Tag Mariners with 6-4 Loss
|
Lewis Williams, who is on pace for 211 strikeouts this season, propelled his team to victory over the Seattle Mariners. The final score was 6-4, Guadalajara. Williams, now 11-5, was the winner. In 6 innings, he gave up 3 hits, while striking out 8, walking 2, and allowing 1 run. Rodrigo Barbarella got the save, his 23rd in 25 chances.
Pete Baird had a big 2-run home run for the Tequileros in the bottom of the fourth inning. With Guadalajara leading 3-0 and a runner on 2nd, he got a fastball from 27-year old right-handed pitcher Bobby Boles and swatted a home run to right. It was his 10th home run of the season, and more importantly, it put the Tequileros ahead, 5-0.
"Lewis never lets off the gas," said Guadalajara manager Brian Rios. "Good, bad, or ugly, he never gives in."
With the win over Seattle, the Tequileros improved to 85-57.
