Houston Stymied by Montreal, 2-1
|
In a tightly-contested game between the Montreal Expos and the Houston Astros, pitcher Kosami Kashiwagi was outstanding. The Montreal left-hander, who finished 2nd in the NL in saves with 39 in 2079, propelled his team's 2-1 win. The winner was Kashiwagi. He threw 6.1 innings of 3-hit ball. The loser was Pablo Villalobos. Martin Gonzáles picked up the save for Montreal, his 7th of the year.
Montreal center fielder Parker Payano contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the fifth. With two down, he hit a fastball to center field for a run-scoring single. It was his 92nd hit of the season and put the Expos ahead, 2-1.
Payano called it "a solid win."
At 74-64, the Expos find themselves in first place in the National League East.
