The Pittsburgh Pirates beat the New York Mets, 9-3, at PNC Park. Pittsburgh third baseman Marty Boydston led the way. He was 2-4 with 2 doubles. He scored 2 runs and drove in 4. Chad Scott, the winning pitcher, improved to 15-8. He pitched 8.1 innings, giving up 8 hits and 3 runs, while striking out 5 and walking 2. The Pirates win now puts them at 65-68.

With Pittsburgh trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the fourth, Boydston hit a changeup from Mike Severt for a 2-run double. It was his 33rd double of the season and put the Pirates ahead, 2-1.

"We swung the bats good throughout the lineup," said Pittsburgh skipper Kris Abrams.
