Diamondbacks Come Up Short at San Diego, 4-3
|
The San Diego Padres topped the Arizona Diamondbacks, 4-3, in National League action at Petco Park. The standout performance belonged to San Diego pitcher and Kankakee, Illinois, native Bret Kardos. In 6 innings, Kardos surrendered 5 hits, while striking out 1 and walking 4. He allowed 3 runs. Kendall Potter recorded the save. In save chances, he's now 36 for 38.
Thomas DeJulia had a big run-scoring double for the Padres in the bottom of the third inning. With San Diego leading 2-0 and a runner on 2nd, he got a slider from Apiwat Nguyên, who was drafted in the 2nd round of the 2078 draft, and swatted a double to left. It was his 23rd double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Padres ahead, 3-0.
"Main thing is I want the team to win," Kardos told a reporter after the game. "Just have to go out there, take care of my job, and give my team a chance to win."
San Diego has now won 3 straight, while the Diamondbacks have lost 3 in a row.
