Spiders Flatten White Sox, 9-3
|
The Cleveland Spiders defeated the South Side White Sox, 9-3, in part because of third baseman T.J. Dickens. Dickens went 1 for 3 with a home run and a walk, while scoring 2 times and driving in 3 for the Spiders. Reliever Chet Sukjit picked up the win. His record improves to 4-2. Kokushi Iwagaki, who led the AL in wins with 28 in 2082, took the loss. The Spiders improved their record to 56-66 by beating South Side.
Had Jethro Stephens not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and the bases loaded, Stephens hit a bases-clearing double. That made the score 6-3, in favor of the Spiders.
"We didn't play well enough to win," said South Side skipper Conor White Sox.
