Astros Score Late to Nip Padres, 4-3
|
The Houston Astros needed 11 innings to beat the San Diego Padres, 4-3, at Minute Maid Park. Dillon Henry, for one, had a fine performance. He was 1-3 with a home run and 2 walks, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2. Houston reliever Johan Mejias picked up the win, raising his record to 1-0. Kendall Potter was tagged with the loss. At 56-38, the Astros claim second place in the National League West.
Up to bat in the bottom of the 11th, 28-year old center fielder Egri Rácz had a chance to be the hero. San Diego pitcher Martin Gallegos wanted to foil that plan. But with one out, Rácz hit a sacrifice fly. The Astros had themselves a thrilling win.
San Diego manager Mario Castanon said he was "mildly disappointed" with the loss. "We had our opportunities, but we didn't take advantage of them," he said.
